Main Goals

The project aims to promote social stability by fighting inequality through increased Gender Based Violence awareness, legal support services and creating community centered response mechanisms.

GEOGRAPHICAL COVERAGE

Region: Mtwara (Southern Tanzania)

District and District Councils

Mtwara District: Tangazo, Mahurunga, Msimbati, Madimba, Nanguruwe, Nalingu, Libobe, Moma, Dihimba and Mkunwa

Tandahimba District: Tandahimba, Michenjele, Kitama, Malopokela, Milongodi, Liyenje, Mahundo, Mihambwe, Mchichila and Miuta.

KEY ACTIVITIES

  1. Capacity Strengthening: The project offers training sessions for Women, Men, Children, Youth, Elders, People with Disability and marginalized groups on the causes and effects of GBV, where to report, referral pathways, how to attain justice, conflict resolution and peacebuilding.

Door of Hope Tanzania Legal Aid Center train and support existing community based paralegal advocates to increase access to mediation and legal support for GBV clients based on the referral of GBV survivors. These paralegals provide legal assistance, advice, mediation services, refer clients for Legal Services to the center and escort them to court on different legal issues including on GBV, labor law, and custody issues as well as link them to the legal center to assist them in understanding their rights, navigating the reporting process, and monitoring their cases throughout the legal system.  

  1. Community Engagement: The project collaborates with local leaders, government officials, and other stakeholders to build a collective response to Gender Based Violence, conflict resolution, Legal support and Peace Building.
  2. Mobile Legal Aid Clinic: The trained task force in collaboration with the Legal Aid Center and local government leaders coordinates a mobile legal aid clinic to listen, collect, analyze, document, and respond to all GBV cases in a legal manner. This innovative mobile service aims to provide free legal services to survivors of gender-based violence who have been unable to receive timely and appropriate legal assistance due to distance, costs, and limited understanding of access to justice procedures, and therefore need legal assistance.
  3. Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns: Through community outreach programs, including workshops and public events, the project educates the public on Gender Based Violence prevention and peacebuilding, while advocating for policies that protect vulnerable populations and acquiring of Legal Justice.

Case Management, Access to Justice and Legal Aid Services through Legal Aid Center: With the presence of Door of Hope Legal Aid Center, it has established Legal Aid Clinic task force composed of (Prosecutors, Investigators, Social Welfare Officers, Paralegal Unit, Women right organization, Journalist, court officer, Legal firm, and police gender desk) to facilitate a free referral pathway for survivors to access comprehensive GBV case management services and legal aid services such as legal advice, assistance, representation, education and mechanisms for alternative dispute resolution.

PINGA UKATILI JENGA AMANI NA KIZAZI CHENYE USAWA project is an initiative focused on addressing gender-based violence (GBV) and fostering peacebuilding within communities while promoting gender equality. The project operates in rural and semi-urban areas, particularly targeting Women, Men, Children, Youth, Elders, People with Disability and marginalized groups, aiming to create a safer, more inclusive environment for all community members.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  1. Increase community awareness of Gender based violence.
  2. Provide legal support services for Gender Based Violence survivors.
  3. Establish community centered response mechanisms to combat Gender Based Violence.
  4. Enhance social stability by addressing inequality.

EXPECTED NUMBER OF BENEFICIARIES

Direct beneficiaries to be reached are 5,380 and Indirect Beneficiaries will base on Community outreach and awareness campaigns.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  1. Increased Awareness and Knowledge: Participants have gained a deeper understanding of the connection between the causes and effects of Gender Based Violence, where to report, referral pathways, how to attain justice, conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
  2. Community Empowerment: The project has successfully empowered Women, Men, Children, Youth, Elders, People with Disability and marginalized groups to take leadership roles in their communities, promoting peaceful coexistence and advocating for gender equality.
  3. Partnerships and Support: The project has garnered support from key stakeholders, including local government officials, community leaders, and different partners. This collaboration has strengthened the project’s impact and extended its reach to more communities.

PINGA UKATILI JENGA AMANI NA KIZAZI CHENYE USAWA project is a transformative initiative working to end gender-based violence, promote peace, and achieve gender equality through community-driven approaches, but also ensuring individuals acquire justice through Door of Hope Legal Aid Center. By empowering Women, Men, Children, Youth, Elders, People with Disability and marginalized groups and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, the project is creating lasting change in the lives of individuals and communities alike.

OFFICES: Door of Hope Tanzania currently has two offices where the head office is at Shangani East Street, Shangani Ward, Mtwara Mikindani Municipal and One sub – Office the Legal Aid Center found at Shangani Street, Shangani Ward, Mtwara Mikindani Municipal near Stella Maris University College (SAUT)
