Door of Hope to Women and Youth Tanzania (DHWYT)

Door of Hope to Women and Youth Tanzania (DHWYT) is a national Non-governmental and Non-profit organization registered on 17th August 2017 under Non-Governmental Organization Act, 2002 with registration number 00NGO/0009372 and has the mandate to operate Tanzania mainland. Door of Hope to Women and Youth Tanzania emerged and eventually remain to date as a vital force in the southern zone of Tanzania, encompassing Mtwara, Lindi, and Ruvuma regions. Initially known as the Tanzania Youth and Women Foundation (TYWF), the organization was driven by a mission to confront the unique challenges faced by women and youth in these areas. In 2016, the small group of dedicated individuals, deeply committed to making a difference in their communities, laid the foundation for what would become a significant player in development of the southern zone of Tanzania today. In 2017, TYWF underwent a transformation, rebranding as the Door of Hope to Women and Youth Tanzania (DHWYT) and gaining legal recognition under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act of 2002 (NGOs law). This marked a new chapter in its journey, with DHWYT expanding its reach and commencing the implementation of various programs across Tanzania Mainland. The organization, now recognized as the sole authoritative body in its operational regions, has grown substantially in scope and impact, becoming a key force for change in Southern Tanzania.

OPERATIONAL AREA

The organization currently operates directly/indirectly in 7 regions and within 21 district councils, and for the strategic year 2024-2028 we have strengthened our interventions and programs in Southern Zone regions: (Mtwara, Lindi & Ruvuma)

WHO WE ARE

DHWYT’s since founded, has been strategically working with government and partners to promote and empower Tanzanian youth and women, enabling them to harness their mental and physical abilities for the discovery and utilization of national potentials. This endeavor aims at catalyzing sustainable socio-economic development and empowerment of such groups.

The organization’s vision encompasses promoting the productive participation of youth and women in public affairs, thereby ensuring improved access to public social services and fostering
inclusive sustainable development. DHWYT firmly believes that empowering these groups e.g., through information, will enable them to demand and contribute to a government that delivers essential services such as job creation, infrastructure development, quality healthcare, clean water, and education.

Our mission

DHWYT is dedicated to empowering youth and women for active participation in public affairs, focusing on socio-economic, civil, and legal empowerment, through social accountability monitoring and democratic processes (Governance), economic strengthening, civic education, Promotion of Access to justice, peace building, Child Protection, Fighting GBV, Promoting Gender equality and Inclusive leadership, and the creation of grassroots movements.

OUR PROGRAMMES

DHWYT OPERATES WITH FIVE MAIN PROGRAMMATIC AREAS:

  1. Civic Engagement, Gender and Inclusive Leadership.

The goal of the program is to have an improved quality of life for citizens of Tanzania through checking on the wastage and excess of power of the government. This through building the capacity of citizens in demanding accountability from the public officials. Through Women Leadership interventions #NguvuyaMwanamke, Door of Hope Tanzania is Collaborating with government and communities to create good environment for Women and Youth to participate in leadership, access leadership positions, and be part of decision making organs from the village to national level. And under Southern Zone Ending Sextortion Movement (SESEMO) we promote gender equality in acquiring leadership positions by fighting sexual corruption in all electoral process and procedures, Schools, Collages and working places, and further advance social value and dismantling GBV ecosystem in working places, schools, colleges, and political parties through increased awareness on sextortion concept, advancing women rights, promoting grassroots movements and multi stakeholders’ engagements, and so attain transformative changes and
influencing legal and policy reforms in all levels and all life aspects.

2. Economic strengthening, Entrepreneurship and Social Justice.

Interventions under this program are geared towards empowering women and youth from vulnerable households. This enables them to improve their income through savings and engaging in income-generating activities like agriculture and small entrepreneurship.

3. Youth Engagement, Empowerment and Participation.

This program intends to empower youth to effectively participate and promote good governance in Tanzania’s. The overall objective of the program is to empower youth through awareness raising and capacity building to demand transparency, accountability and public participation in peace building, timely solving youth and community grievances, participation in planning and resources allocation from the community level, expenditure management of
public funds, fighting GBV, Integrity management of the decision makers and duty bearers.

4. Health, Protection and Life skills.

The goal of this program is to empower women and adolescent youth in family planning and SRH respectively. Also, through this program social centered mechanisms and systems to protect women and children rights are retrieved, established and strengthened. Children and Youths are empowered with like skills and how to detect child-violence morning signs and report immediately. Youths are reached through the well-established mechanism known as Vijana Simama Imara Ambassadors (VSI Initiatives) and Children are coordinated in schools and out of schools through the Rafiki Mdogo wa Door of Hope Tanzania (RM Clubs).

5. Good Governance, Accountability and Human Rights.

This program promotes transparent and community realization of human rights; and empowers the citizens to effectively participate in decision-making processes to ensure that leadership is responsive and accountable to the people they serve. It focuses on upholding human rights, empowering individuals and communities to understand their rights, and advocating for justice and equality. The program aims to strengthen democratic governance by encouraging responsible leadership and citizen participation. It is through this program that community members directly or indirectly through the
social accountability monitoring teams (SAM teams) demands clarification, justification and explanation on the utilization on public funds/money in the design and implementation of sustainable social projects and infrastructures. Citizens are technically supported and capacitated to be able to monitor, track and analyze the quality of programs by focusing on planning and resources allocation, how expenditures, performance and integrity are managed through out the service provision process, and hence enhance oversight organs to productively and effectively deliver to the people.

6. Media, Communication and Creativity

The Media, Communication, and Creativity program focuses on enhancing communication skills, fostering creativity, and utilizing media as a tool for advocacy, awareness, and education. The program aims to empower individuals, especially youth, to use creative approaches and media platforms to communicate effectively, raise awareness on social issues, and contribute to community development.

DOOR OF HOPE TANZANIA LEGAL AID CENTER

Door of Hope Tanzania Legal Aid Center founding year: 2023.

The center aims to provide legal aid to those with special needs, including women, children, girls, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups, to ensure they receive their rights promptly and effectively.

OBJECTIVES OF THE CENTER
  1. The Legal Aid Center aims to enhance access to justice for citizens.
  2. Provide legal education to the public.
  3. Provide legal aid.
  4. Educate the community on human rights issues.
  5. Assist in resolving conflicts peacefully.
